Firefox Users can’t Access Microsoft.com

Microsoft.com is pretty sneaky. In a bid to keep Firefox users out, the page won’t load if you are not using IE. Darn.

The only issue with the new Microsoft.com is that it locks out Firefox users. Multiple reports have surfaced from users of the rival Mozilla browser that when accessed through Firefox, the redesigned Microsoft.com posts a message reading “We’re sorry, but there is no Microsoft.com Web page that matches your entry. It is possible you typed the address incorrectly, or the page may no longer exist. You may wish to try another entry or choose from the links below, which we hope will help you find what you’re looking for.” This happens while the site is completely functional with IE, or browsers are using IE as a platform.

Microsoft and iRiver to bust up Apple’s iPod party

Here comes Microsoft and iRiver to bust up Apple’s iPod party and dig into our pockets. I just can’t stomach too many Microsoft powered gadgets out there. They sound so familiar and I hate it when they hang. I just love those days when you had vacuum tubes. At least they die when they are supposed to.

South Korea’s digital audio player maker Reigncom Ltd. is teaming up with Microsoft Corp and MTV to challenge Apple Computer Inc.’s iPod. “No hardware company can survive alone,” Frank Lim, Reigncom’s director in charge of marketing and planning for its iRiver players, said in an interview on Thursday. “We have shifted our strategy focus from music players to entertainment devices.” Reigncom’s newest player, Clix, which won kudos from CNET and PC World experts, is a flash-based MP3 player with a 2.2-inch LCD screen that allows users to view movies and photos. It integrates Microsoft’s Windows Media Player 11 along with URGE, a subscription-based music service from MTV Networks.

Bill Says the PC is not Dead

Don’t give up hope yet. With so many companies trying to fit the power of a 1970 mainframe into your hands on tiny gadgets, you’d wonder why you’ll even want to stay at a desk 8 hours of the day typing in a stuffy office. I wonder too. I could be sipping coconuts in Pulau Tioman and reading emails and handling server tickets from the comfort of the beach. Well that may not be too far away and surely, Bill Gates does not want that to happen so soon too by looking at the report below.

Bill Gates and Paul Otellini, two titans of the PC industry, said reports of the demise of personal computer are premature as PCs find new functions in the growing market for digital devices, including cell phones and music players.

Their comments come as worldwide PC shipment growth slowed to 12.9 percent in the first quarter from 15.9 percent a year earlier, according to market researcher IDC. Both companies have stirred concern over a slowdown in PC sales growth this year, with Microsoft last month predicting that PC and server computer sales growth would decelerate in its fiscal year starting July 1.

Microsoft and Google looking for the Best

The big 2 giants of the Web - Microsoft and Google are looking for the Best brains around. Wonder if I can apply. Just need to pass that MENSA IQ test next week tho. Without it, I’m still a certified dork.

“One area where Microsoft and Google are really competing head-to- head now is in the war for talent,” said Richard Tedlow, a historian and professor at Harvard Business School. “Historically, the company that won the war for talent won the war.” Tedlow points to Montgomery Ward as a company that lost talented managers to its rival Sears, and then lost its way. The crucial defection, Tedlow said, was Robert Wood, a former army general who joined Montgomery Ward in 1919 as general merchandise manager.
