Looks like Microsoft Live Search is no more a test tube baby…Its been released official to beat the G out of Google…Good luck to them…Their MSN search had a lot of spam in the heydays back in the 90s. I know..I was from that era..I still find the Microsoft Live Search a bit too slow for my taste. How can they ever try to beat Google’s searching hardware that’s been dubbed the largest collection of open source servers.
Software giant Microsoft has launched the new Live.com search service in its ongoing battle to beat the mighty Google. The search engine has been in beta testing for several months and features the streamlined look of Google’s popular homepage.

There’s not many Wan optimisation specialists out there. I’m only familiar with Cisco, Citrix Systems and Packeteer. So the market is not that crowded yet and now the big blue guys at Microsoft recent tie up with Citrix Systems is set to heat things up. Good luck going after this networking giant valued at USD$28.48Billion (2006).
Microsoft’s recent alliance with Citrix Systems to develop wide area network (Wan) optimisation technology represents a declaration of war on Cisco in the “critical battleground” of the branch office, Gartner has reported. According to the analyst firm, the Redmond giant’s tie-up with thin client firm Citrix is the culmination of a “long-simmering rivalry” with Cisco, and has the potential to transform the Wan optimisation market. The comments come after Microsoft and Citrix announced an expansion of their established partnership that will result in a jointly developed and marketed Citrix-branded branch office box. Gartner said that this product is scheduled to ship in the second quarter of next year and will be based on Citrix’s WANScaler product line gained through its recent acquisition of Orbital Data, and on Microsoft’s Windows Server and Internet Security and Acceleration Server.

Windows Sysadmins take note ! Another round of patches has come up.
On Tuesday, Microsoft Corporation released 12 security fixes for its Windows operating system and Office business software. In its monthly security bulletin, Microsoft also said two of the fixes are for vulnerabilities in some versions of its Office software that carry the highest “critical” rating. All of the patches are to fix weaknesses that could allow an attacker to take complete control of a person’s computer.

Sure. Microsoft Windows Compute Cluster Server 2003 is much easier to setup and you don’t have to hire a specialist like for Linux clusters but I still doubt its performance. Windows has been famous for slow performance and high overheads. Show me more proof and I’ll believe this article.
