Official launch of Microsoft Live Search

Looks like Microsoft Live Search is no more a test tube baby…Its been released official to beat the G out of Google…Good luck to them…Their MSN search had a lot of spam in the heydays back in the 90s. I know..I was from that era..I still find the Microsoft Live Search a bit too slow for my taste. How can they ever try to beat Google’s searching hardware that’s been dubbed the largest collection of open source servers.

Software giant Microsoft has launched the new Live.com search service in its ongoing battle to beat the mighty Google. The search engine has been in beta testing for several months and features the streamlined look of Google’s popular homepage.

W32.Cuebot-K Pretends to be Microsoft Anti-Piracy Program

Sophos, a security vendor has found a new worm variant called W32.Cuebot-K that that pretends to be a Microsoft anti-piracy program. It spreads through the AOL’s Instant Messenger program. The worm has a range of malicious functions. After it’s installed, the worm immediately tries to connect to two Web sites, a sign it may try to download other bad programs on the machine. Pretty scary. Update your virus definitions today !

If installed on a computer, Cuebot-K is registered as a new system device driver service named “wgavn.” When a list of services running on the computer is summoned, the worm appears as “Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Notification” Sophos said.

New online Live Tools from Microsoft

Microsoft, the biggest software company wants to kick Google’s software hide and come out with more beta software than Google Labs. So what’s happening ? The important thing is that its gonna be free to PC users and they’ll probably support it via Ads.

The company’s upcoming “Windows Live” promises new programs to handle instant messages, e-mail, schedules and maps; perform Web searches; manage RSS feeds and lots more. Darn, I wish they would come up with something that pays my bills automagically and get a me cup of yoghurt in the morning. My wife does that sometimes but only in the morning. Oh well, I’m waiting for a Microsoft Robot in the near future , maybe 2010.

Beta version of the MSDN Wiki

What is this MSDN Wiki ? With it, you can see other’s footnotes and such, next to the documentation, and additional code samples.

Warning, this Wiki does not support Firefox yet. Darn, as expected from old MS.

When will you support FireFox?

For this release, we got to a point where we had to choose between making our editor work in FireFox and fixing some editor bugs causing content drop-out. Since the bugs in the latter category affected more users we decided to fix those and punt FireFox support to a future release. It’s high on our list of issues to address in the near future.

Microsoft has also announced the availability of the beta version of the MSDN Wiki, the company’s first step toward allowing customers to contribute to Microsoft’s developer documentation.

From the article: “It is purely a branding change, company officials said. The gist of the issue is that Microsoft has two successful developer brands in WinFX and .Net, and the company has seen 320,000 downloads of WinFX — and 700 signed GoLive licenses — since the December Community Technology Preview, and more than 35 million downloads of the .Net Framework since the November launch.”

On this site you can add content to VS 2005 documentation topics and edit contributions from other users. Our goal is to extend the documentation with code examples, tips and tricks, and other information that you add.
